What’s the fastest way to become a lawyer?
Posted by adminFeb 28
I’m 33, have a full time job and 2 kids to raise. I live in Seattle, Washington.
In dealing with multiple court issues involving my deadbeat dad ex-husband over the past 5 years, I have had to represent myself in all cases – from child support, custody modifications, restraining orders, contempt of court actions – you name it. I am dismayed at how little help there is out there for low income single mothers. Even child support services are of no help whatsoever. Because no one was able to help me and I couldn’t afford the attorneys that could, I have read and accomplished everything on my own. In doing so, I have developed a passion for family law. I want to use my mind, heart, and talent to help other single moms in my position that cannot afford an attorney – money is not my driving force because I am just as passionate about resolving their custody and child support issues as they are.
I have minimal college experience and do not have my AA. Time and money are both obstacles for me; however, I am competent, driven, and know I can be successful should I take on the endeavor of law school. What do I need to do to become a family law attorney?

You’ll have to finish your college degree and then get accepted into a law school. I don’t know how many credits you have left to finish off the college experience you have, but tag on 3 more years for law school (full time) or 4 years if you find a part time law school.
After that you just need to pass the bar and you’re on your way.
If you don’t have that kind of time commitment, but you are interested in Family Law you may consider finding a job in a law office as a paralegal. Usually you can get this through a community college paralegal program. It will be much quicker (and easier). Good luck.

Unfortunately there is no fast and easy way I’m aware of to become a lawyer. There’s no way that I know of to gain credit for your life experiences which sound extensive. An undergrad degree, a law degree and passing the bar all must be done to become a lawyer. It will take a lot of time and money to do so. So though you say you’re not into this for the money, you’ll need it to pay off the debt you will probably rack up to find your dream. Good luck.

I would suggest if you REALLY want to help people not to become a lawyer it takes way too long and way too much crap….I would become a paralegal. They don’t have the title of lawyer but you get to help people file stuff and that is really the problem that most people have. They have the $200 to file, but not the thousands to get a lawyer.
