I think I caught my 14 year old brother smoking…what do I do?
Posted by adminDec 31
He’s smoking cigarettes by himself in the garage at night…I understand experimenting with it and smoking with friends and whatever but it worries me that he feels the need to smoke at home. Our home situation has been really bad the past couple years, our dad left and our mom suffers from alcoholism and severe substance abuse. Should I just not do anything about it? My brother doesn’t know about my mom being a recovering junkie…but I can see him having the same tendencies to fall into an addiction. My mom would never notice by herself because she is currently too preoccupied with her own situation…so now I feel like it is up to me to either act…or not act.

Tell him you cant control what he does, but your not proud of him for smoking… but you do understand, but he needs to understand if hes going to do that stuff, not to bring it into your house.

Just tell him straight out,
“You know how much harm smoking can do to you, you’re getting older and it’s time you make your own decisions”
This should make him feel guilty and hopefully choose the right choice. If he continues to do it you MUST seek help from a psychologist.
Sorry to hear about your family situation by the way. Things will start to look up real soon.

It sounds as if it is up to you to act and please do. You and your brother might be the only 2 for each other right now and it sounds like you are the older sister. Be there for him.
Please don’t let him start smoking.! I smoke, I hate it. cost to much, it’s going to kill me, makes me smell bad. I wish my older sister stopped me from smoking instead of buying them for me.

Take his cigarettes from him.
Smoking laws prohibit kids younger than 16 from smoking.
Back in the early-80′s, I was barely a teenager and, my father was dating a woman that worked for the Nature Conservancy. She was a hypocrite. Because, She worked for an environmental organization while, her disgusting cigarette smoking was depleting the ozone layer.
Several times, I took her cigarettes and, hid them.
Take your brothers cigarettes and destroy them, NOW!!!

Just say, hey I know you smoke and I really think you should stop. I’m not telling you what to do I’m just saying that it’s gonna lead to trouble OR just talk to a counselor and they may be able to talk to him privately. good luck hun;)

Try talking to him and maybe explain about your mom and how he can learn about her mistakes. Maybe knowing somebody that may have started out like he is could make him think twice before smoking again.

I Suggest You Talk To Him About It,
Ask Him Why And How Often He Does It,
You Can Then Address The Problem Once You Know More
Good Luck,
