Posted by adminAug 30
I know someone who is hooked on the pill vicodin and she has been for over 3 years but it got way worse when her father dies. She knows she needs to get off them but when she tries she hurts so bad. She spends so much on them that she late on her rent and can not help herself. If she can not find them on the street she will go to the hospital to get them. I dont know what to do for her. Can you please help. She can not afford rehab or she would be there.

She’ll need to go to rehab one way or the other, and I would think that it’s more expensive in the long run to be homeless and get fired from every job than to go through with it. I don’t know where you live, but there are low cost programs or I think even free ones and she should ask for a referral from her doctor, or call Narcotics Anonymous in your area and they may have some useful advice.

I can’t really help her thru you. she needs to find an NA member and go from there.

It’s a trajic situation. NA has helped thousands like your friend. They are probably familiar with a 1/2 way house nearby, where they can gradually wean her off the drug. Look in your phone book or white:

NA *DOES NOT* place people in treatment facilities!!
You put yourself in treatment then attend meetings for support.
The hospital will make you “comfortable” and give you instructions on how to cope during withdrawl, but they will NOT give you pills.
This is a great lesson on why you don’t start abusing drugs in the first place. Hopefully you can live with a relative and enter rehab. It’s either that or prostitution, a greater addiction, and a short miserable little life.
You can afford rehab and you would know that if you had called and spoken to someone in the social services department where you live.
Because space and beds are limited – there are a lot of people out there in the same situation – there’s a waiting list to get a bed and get treatment. Get on the list and couch surf for now.
